
Nagpur, May 5: Following concerns raised over inadequate shelter for passengers during the ongoing heatwave, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Mayor Mrs. Nita Thakre on Tuesday inspected the Morbhavan Bus Stand at Sitabuldi.
Nagpur Today had recently highlighted the issue of insufficient shaded areas and passenger discomfort due to extreme heat, prompting swift action from the civic administration.
During the inspection, the Mayor directed officials to improve and upgrade facilities for commuters. She emphasized that providing safe and comfortable infrastructure for passengers is the responsibility of the transport department.
The visit was attended by Standing Committee Chairperson Mrs. Shivani Dani Wakhre, Transport Committee Chairperson Mrs. Mangala Khekre, Fire Committee Chairperson Mrs. Rupali Parshu Thakur, Transport Committee member Mr. Shailesh Pandey, and Transport Department Manager Dr. Meghna Wasnikar, along with other officials.
Mayor Thakre reviewed the smart public toilet facility developed by the NMC’s slum department and the nearby Hirkani Room. She instructed authorities to maintain strict cleanliness standards and ensure proper upkeep.
She also directed officials to expedite electricity connections at the newly constructed bus shelter and to provide air-conditioning facilities in the Hirkani Room for the comfort of women and children.
Senior officials including Administrative Officer Mr. Yogesh Lunge, Executive Engineer Mr. Naresh Singamjode, Deputy Engineer Mr. Kanhaiya Rathod, Operations Manager Mr. Rajiv Ghatole, Labour Officer Mr. Pimpurde, Mr. Gajanan Nagulwar, and others were present during the inspection.
