As Winter Session started today on Monday Shiv Sena held a protest demanding resignation of Aney

Nagpur: As it was scheduled, Advocate General of Maharashtra will NOT be addressing both houses of Maharashtra – Vidhan Sabha and Vidhan Parishad – today at 3 p.m.

His utterances during his book launch on Saturday had created a lot of storm yesterday, specially at the Leader of opposition’s press conference. They took strong exception to his saying that the 105 souls who martyred themselves for the cause of Mumbai and Samyukta Maharashtra had nothing to do with Vidarbha. One of the constituents of the Maharashtra government, the Shiv Sena has also reacted strongly asking for his resignation – or even his sacking. The C.M. expressed displeasure at what was happening at his ‘tea party’ on Sunday.

All this added to his non appearance at the winter session assembly today may lead to speculations that he had indeed resigned.

But he has not – and he has no intention of doing so either! He said this while talking to the Nagpur Today, e-news daily.

In an exclusive chat with the undersigned, Advocate Aney clarified that he could not give his talk today as scheduled since he has to be in Delhi to appear before the Supreme Court in a case. In fact, when we spoke, he had just landed in Delhi. He said that the notice to appear before the apex court in an old case – pertaining to some academic appointments – had been received late by his office after his talk had been scheduled, but he had to give priority to Supreme court orders.

When asked if intended to resign he stated categorically that he has not and has no intentions of ever resigning as Advocate General of Maharashtra – if they want him to go they will have to remove him!

“And only the Governor of the state has the power to do so, since I have been appointed by him – no one else can therefore ask me to leave. And I know the Governor will not take such a step before he talks with me about it” said Shreehari Aney.

He also went on to say that the CM, Fadnavis also knows the law in this respect. He also feels that the CM does not think he – Aney – has broken any protocol by saying the things he did at his press meet. The CM knew very well that he has was a strong proponent of Vidarbha when his government decided to appoint him to the post of AG.

“I will definitely address a joint session of both houses once during the winter assembly” Aney emphasized.

He sounded in good spirits and not at all daunted by the storm he has created back in Nagpur….will it turn out to be ‘storm in a tea cup?” or literally ” storm at a tea party?”
