A protesting computer operator tries to commit suicide at Tekdi Road

Nagpur: One of the members of Maharashtra Rajya Sanganak Parichalak Sanghatna, who were squatting at Tekdi Road since December 15 and had taken out a morcha to Vidhan Bhavan, created ripples in police and political circles when he tried to commit suicide by consuming a poisonous stuff.

The accused Balaji Bhivaji Birajdar (24), resident of Naded District, was participating in the agitation as representative of his wife. The protesting computer operators were stopped by the police at Tekdi Road. Since then the agitating activists were camping at Tekdi Road until their demands were met. Meanwhile, around 8.15 pm on Sunday, the accused Balaji Bhivaji Birajdar dodged the cops manning the morchaites and consumed a toxic stuff with the intention of committing suicide. However, the act of Balaji was noticed by Police Constable Sachin Nagorao Suryavanshi who watching the protesters closely. The policeman immediately raised an alarm. His alarm drew attention of other cops who rushed to accused Balaji and took him to a Government Hospital for treatment. Now, he is reportedly stable.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by Police Constable Sachin Suryavanshi, Sitabuldi PSI S W Mate has booked the accused Balaji Birajdar under Section 309 of IPC and launched aan in-depth probe into the case.

The members of Maharashtra Rajya Sanganak Parichalak Sanghatna had taken a morcha to Vidhan Bhavan on December 16 over delay in meeting their demands by the State Government. The morcha had turned violent forcing cops to resort to lathi-charge, lob tear gas shells in order to quell the violence. A day earlier also, the protesters had turned violent necessitating a mild lathi-charge by cops.
