A hapless woman entering the train slips into rail-track, dies; another woman injured

Nagpur: Intending to first find berth in compartment, a hapless woman, trying amidst hustle-bustle of passengers to enter the compartment of a train slipped into rail-tracks and died on the spot while another woman, Madhu Thapa (45) during the said attempt fell on the platform and suffered serious injuries. The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday evening at Nagpur railway station.

Madhu is resident of Binaki Mangalwari, and has been hospitalized at Mayo. The deceased is identified as Shashikala Meshram (55), resident of Hiwari Nagar layout.

According to eye-witness account, Sewagram Express train was reaching platform No. 4 as usual. There was heavy crowd at the platform, and the passengers of general compartment started running to find berth in the boggy. Accidentally deceased woman during hustle-bustle got pushed from behind and slipped into rail-track and died on the spot. Certain passengers pulled her out, but in dead condition.1 (1)

Meanwhile another woman passenger, Madhu Thapa also fell on the platform and got severely injured. The on-duty doctor said that the bone of left thigh of the injured was broken, and her stomach was also suspected of being injured. She was immediately rushed to Mayo hospital where she was hospitalized. The RPF jawans posted on duty blew the whistles and warned the passengers not to board the boggy until the train had stopped, but they did not pay heed to them.

Narrating her trauma to the media, Madhu said that a man caught her by hand otherwise she too could have slipped into tracks.

Meanwhile, there was a sort of stampede at the platform, but the situation was brought under control.
