Health Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation, with the help of Enforcement Department and Crime Branch of Nagpur Police, cracked down on illegal slaughter houses and mutton shops on April 2, the Mahavir Jayanti day. The NMC crackdown was reported from several localities across the city. During the action, 160 kg of meat, five electronic scales, 35 large knives, and other related material was seized by NMC. A fine of Rs 3400 was also recovered from the illegal slaughter houses and mutton shops.
The crackdown, under the direct supervision of Deputy Director (Health) Dr Milind Ganvir, was carried out by Veterinary Officer Dr Gajendra Mahalle. Officials of Crime Branch and Enforcement Department also participated in the action.
No burning of garbage:
In accordance with Civic Solid Waste (Handling and Management) Rules 2000 and orders of High Court in the pending criminal petition, burning of all kinds of garbage has been prohibited. Subsequently, on behalf of NMC, offices of Ravi Bhavan Administration, Fire Service College, Labour Court, DRDO Complex, Divisional Commissioner, Maharashtra Tourism Corporation, District Court and other offices, establishments, hospitals and residents were notified about the prohibition of burning of garbage. A total of 21 persons including government employees, doctors, traders, citizens and others were found guilty of violating the orders. They were served notices and fined to the tune of thousands of rupees.
