Top Cotton Office shifted to Nagpur from Mumbai

Cotton_Boll_3The office of the Director of Cotton Development, (DCD), which was based in Mumbai right from its creation, has been shifted to Nagpur as the maximum Cotton farmers of the state are  in the Vidarbha area, the soil itself here is called ‘Black Cotton Soil. The shift will help distressed Cotton farmers of the area in redressing their problems.

The office shares space in the government premises of Sarvekshan Bhavan in Civil Lines, Nagpur. Anil Pratap Singh, Additional Commissioner (Cotton) Government of India told the media ” unlike many other cotton growing states, Vidarbha lacks irrigation and has been witnessing problems over a period of time. Mumbai was once a textile hub, a reason why the office was headquartered there.” Singh also disclosed that  the office which is the nodal agency for cotton development for the entire country, has also been made the nodal agency for National Food Security Scheme (NFSS) for all crops including Cotton.

The office of the DCD is supposed to implement various schemes for cotton development nationally and also give policy inputs.
