The Vidarbha Economic Development Council (VED) recently facilitated a meeting for Sanjay Gupta, an entrepreneur from Chandigarh (Punjab) with Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister, and Subhash Desai, Minister for Industries on the issue of a textile industry in Nandgaonpeth MIDC, (Amravati), informed Devendra Parekh, President, VED.
He further informed that Gupta is coming up with a 250 cr. Project, Shyam Indofab Pvt. Ltd., in Nandgaonpeth MIDC, almost at the stage of completion. The company proposes to set up a vertically integrated textile unit with a control from Fiber to Fabric and proposes to set up a state of the art facility with the latest technologies and complete automation. There will be a State-of-the-art Effluent Plant, Reverse Osmosis Plant for recycling of water, a PPP with Government of Maharashtra to turn the ITI’s there into centers of excellence& training and employment of rural women at the plant. It would give direct and indirect employment to a 1000 people. This is the first textile unit of the textile industry in Nandgaonpeth MIDC.
Rahul Upganlawar, Secretary General, VED, informed that Sandeep Gupta has agreed to help in the matter of conducting Road-Shows in Punjab as 8-10 prospective investors may be keen to invest in the Nandgaonpeth MIDC. The Vidarbha Economic Development Council (VED), therefore, invited Gupta to act as an ambassador for Vidarbha’s textile industry.
However, certain parameters have to be made conducive for the establishment of a textile industry in Nandgaonpeth like water rates must be made comparable to a competitive State like Madhya Pradesh and the Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CEFT) should be made affordable.
The reason why Vidarbha seems to be the right place at this point of time for the setting up of such an industry is that the major textile hubs in the country like the Punjab, Rajasthan and Tamilnadu are experiencing a difficult phase. In Punjab, the land rates have escalated so steeply that one has to go out of the State for expansion and also the electric supply there is not continuous. In Rajasthan, raw water is a big problem in the major places for textiles like Bhilwara and Pali. In Tamilnadu, CEFT costs are very high and unaffordable, therefore, abiding by pollution control norms is very difficult.
In contrast, Vidarbha offers a wonderful opportunity and the Govt. is also very committed to development here, so it is expected, procedures would be facilitated. A nodal officer should be appointed who would coordinate with all the Govt. departments for early execution of the cotton industry. VED arranged for Gupta to meet Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister and Subhash Desai, Minister for Industries recently on the subject, expressing the need for a textile manufacturing hub here so that cotton is processed here and goes out of Vidarbha as fabric, in short, Fibre to Fabric. For this VED proposes to hold road-shows along with State Government in Punjab, Rajasthan and Tamilnadu to market Nandgaonpeth there as a textile hub. Gupta extended all possible help to try attracting to Vidarbha all the companies in those States who are on an expansion mode.
