Mayor pats NMC for Dengue preventive steps but stresses all out efforts to kill the menace

Lauding the measures of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) in preventing spread of Dengue disease in the city, the Mayor Pravin Datke on Wednesday stressed upon all out efforts to completely eliminate the menace with the cooperation of citizens and people’s representatives. “Only preventive steps will not curb Dengue. Mass awareness campaign over the disease will hold the key for effective remedy to eradicate the threat,” said the Mayor while presiding over a meeting organized to review the preventive measures being taken by NMC.

The Malaria and Filariasis Officer Jayashree Thote, highlighting the various measures initiated to curb spread of Dengue, said that the teams of Health Department had since the past six months surveyed 488931 houses in different areas of the city. Out of the 488931 houses, 20,977 were found to be breeding mosquito larvae. The larvae was destroyed by various means such as spraying insecticides, fogging and releasing “Gappi” fish in water storages. Till now, 2778 serum samples were received out of which 293 samples tested Dengue positive. Four patients died, said the Malaria and Filariasis Officer Jayashree Thote.

Thote further said that the Health Department checked 129 patients in Sadar Diagnostic Centre, 31 patients in Indira Gandhi Hospital, 31 patients in Mahal Diagnostic Centre. Of the 191 patients checked, 25 patients in Sadar Centre were found positive while 6 and 8 patients were found positive in Indira Gandhi Hospital and Mahal Diagnostic Centre respectively, said Thote.

Of the city areas, Airport area, Vayusena Nagar, Mhalgi Nagar, Ajni Quarters, Vathoda, Gandhibagh, Shanti Nagar, Pardi, Nari and Jaripatka were found highly infested with Dengue disease.

Others who attended the meeting include Munna Pokulwar, Additional Municipal Commissioner Hemant Pawar, Health Committee Chairman Ramesh Singare, Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Kakde, State Deputy Director Health Services Dr Sanjay Jaiswal, NMC Deputy Director (Health) Dr Milind Ganvir, Health Officer (M) Dr Savita Meshram, Medical Officer Dr Shilpa Jichkar and other officials.
