Clearing the mess at a marriage hall has proved too costly for bride’s mother as her booty worth over Rs 2 lakh was swept away by burglars on the wedding day itself on Sunday. The booty contained cash and gold jewellery.
According to police, the victim Meenakshi Vikas Kampagte (41), a resident of Audumbar Housing Society, Arnavgaon Road, Ahmednagar was in Nagpur for her daughter’s marriage. When the marriage party arrived at Jain Sanskritik Sabhagruha near Awari Square on Sunday afternoon, Meenakshi first started cleaning her room. She kept a bag containing gold jewellery and cash Rs 2 lakh collectively worth Rs 2.20 lakh in the room and went to another room. At the same time, some unidentified persons laid their hands on the bag and fled the spot richer. When Meenakshi returned to her room, she was stunned to find the valuable bag missing.

Sakkardara police have registered an offence under Section 379 of the IPC on the basis of the complaint lodged by Meenakshi and launched a hunt to nab the burglars.
