Getwell Hospital and cycling group ‘Saddles Up Guys’ organized a unique ride on the eve of World Asthma Day on May 11.The ride to create awareness about asthma and promote cycling as a green mode of transport was flagged off by NEERI director Dr SatishR Wate.
The ride was unique in the sense that for the first time in the history of Nagpur, and possibly even Vidarbha, all riders were wearing cycling helmets, cycling jerseys and cycling gloves. All riders were members of ‘Saddle Up Guys’ that promotes safe riding in full cycling gear.

Speaking before the flag-off, Getwell Director and consultant lungs specialist Dr.RajeshSwarnakar said environmental pollution wasa major trigger for asthma attacks which could at times be fatal.He said cycling ensured a healthy body and pollution-free environment. Dr Swarnakar said asthma could be controlled with correct treatment and asthmatics could lead a normal life without limitation to physical activity.
Ride participants included asthma patients and they completed the 25-km ride in the same time as other riders.
NEERI director Dr Watesaid cycling reduced carbon footprint and one and all should take it up. He was all praise for ‘Saddle Up Guys’ to promote cycling as a regular activity and congratulated the group and Getwell Hospital for taking up this activity.
Dr AbhiramParanjpe, also a director at Getwell Hospital, proposed a vote of thanks.
