Now onwards, the candidates who pass the National Eligibility Test (NET) with very good marks would be appointed in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), too. Earlier, the NET passers were eligible only for teachership. The NET has been conducted by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Previously, the facility for appointments in PSUs was provided only to Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) passed candidates.

The UGC is completing the formalities for granting permission to PSU companies for appointments of NET passed candidates with good marks. Till now, the successful NET candidates were eligible only for Junior Research Fellowship and Lecturer. According to information, the UGC has given permission to just one or two companies and is likely to grant permission to other PSU companies also for appointing NET passers. The UGC decision will prove beneficial to those NET passed candidates who would like to serve in PSU companies rather Junior Research Fellowship or Lecturer. The UGC move is likely to draw more and more candidates for NET with the hope of serving in PSU companies.

The GATE passed candidates are being appointed in the PSU companies like NTPC, BHEL, NALCO, Power Grid, and others.
