Wadi cops express inability on pretext of ongoing probe
Nagpur: A labourer with Ordnance Factory (OF) Ambazari in his early 30s, whose hand was trapped in a hydraulic roll making machine owing to administration’s alleged apathy inside the factory during the night shift of February 20, is still waiting to get a First Information Report (FIR) registered with the Wadi police station. Its over two months of the incident, but the cops are showing ignorant attitude, alleged the labourer Ritesh Marotirao Khanderao (31), a resident of Hill-Top Colony, Amravati Road.
Speaking to Nagpur Today, Ritesh narrated his ordeal that how he was deprived of any help from both the OF administration and Wadi police, due to which he and his family are reeling under tremendous mental trauma for over two months now.
A terrifying night
It was my night shift at the factory, despite the fact that labourers are not supposed to operate machinery, my charge-men Ajay Nandurkar asked me to work on hydraulic roll making machine on February 20. It must be around midnight when my right hand’s palm got caught inside the machine. On hearing my screams for help, all my co-workers rushed to help me. They first tried to take out my hand but could not succeed and hence contacted supervisor, who also tried to get my hand released manually before calling the technical assistant. The technical team then who opened the hydraulic machine and my hand was finally out after 45 minutes of exertion.
However, this was not the end of his woes, rather it started warming up, he said, adding, “After the incident, the administration didn’t give me any aid, I had to walk till ambulance, which took me on tour of several hospitals, as due to post midnight all the hospitals were closed and doctors at Lata Mangeshkar and Government Medical College were sleeping. With no respite in sight, I returned home only to leave for hospital next morning.”
Apathy of Wadi police, 2 months long probe, No FIR
I was in admitted in ASI Hospital near Somarwari Quarters for 16 days. In the meantime, when my family members approached Wadi police with the complaint, the cops refused to entertain them saying they don’t have Medico Legal Case (MLC) certificate with them. My family members had no clue regarding what MLC was and where to get it from. When enquired with the cops, they told them to get it from the jurisdiction of the respective police station where I was operated upon. He is still in lurch and trying to find ways to get the MLC.
With two fingers turned into stone and rods inside my hand, I showed up at Wadi police station on March 12, but the police gave me the same answer. Following which, I knocked the doors of Commissioner of Police and Deputy Commissioner of police with a written compliant, who issued me an acknowledgement of the plaint with their stamps, following which Wadi police started the investigation. However, refused to lodge any FIR, on the pretext of undergoing probe. Only god knows as to how much time will the probe take and when will the cops register FIR, remarked a helpless Ritesh.

When contacted, Wadi cops informed Nagpur Today that, the FIR can’t be lodged as the investigation is still going on. However, if we get instructions either from CP or DCP, we would certainly will lodge the FIR, the cops asserted.
Investigating officer ASI Khode could not be contacted inspite of repeated calls in this regard. Talking to Nagpur Today, Police Inspector Pathak, said the cops are doing their best and it’s a matter of couple of days more, before the investigations will be completed.
