2 youths, a juvenile arrested, one accused was in love with sister of deceased
Nagpur: In a major breakthrough, the DB Squad of Nandanvan Police Station arrested two young men and detained a juvenile boy who murdered a 16-year old boy and dumped his body in water tank near Bhandewadi Sewage Treatment Plant with the intention to destroy evidence. One of the accused had love affair with the sister of the deceased who objected to the relationship and hence was eliminated.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, DCP Zone 4 Raj Tilak Roushan said that Nandanvan police on March 24 received information from Police Control Room that body of an unidentified youngster was found floating in a water tank. Subsequently the body was fished out with the help of Fire Brigade and sent to GMCH for autopsy. The post-mortem report revealed that the youth died due to head injuries inflicted with a heavy object and not by drowning and his body was dumped to destroy evidence.
Accordingly, an offence under Sections 302, 201 of the IPC was registered with Nandanvan Police Station and probe launched to establish identity of the deceased and also the accused murderers. The DB Squad of Nanndanvan police formed different teams and sent to various parts of Nagpur district.
One of the teams received information that Kuhi police have registered a case under Section 363 of the IPC regarding a boy missing on March 24. The name of the missing boy is Rohit Shantaram Rangari (16), resident of Chipdi, Tehsil Kuhi. The complaint said that some unidentified persons took away Rohit. Further probe revealed that the missing boy Rohit Rangari and the body found at Bhandewadi Sewage Treatment Plant was the same person. The photo of the deceased was shown to the relatives who identified him as Rohit Shantaram Rangari.
After registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC, cops launched a thorough investigation to ascertain the motive behind the murder and to nab the accused. During the probe, police camer to know that one of the accused Shanu Iqbal Sheikh (22) had love affair with sister of the deceased Rohit. However, Rohit was objecting and opposing the love affair. Therefore the accused Shanu decided to eliminate Rohit. On March 22, the accused Shanu along with his accomplice Vicky alias Viraj Madhukar Patil (19), resident of Chipdi, Kuhi and a juvenile boy took Rohit to Nagpur on a two-wheeler in the evening on the pretext of having food at a hotel.
Instead the accused took Rohit to the room of their friend named Ashish Patil at Antuji Nagar. In the night the accused thrashed Rohit and later took him to heaps of garbage near Bhandewadi Sewage Treatment Plant. There, the accused Shanu Sheikh smashed head of Rohit with a big stone and killed him. With the intention to destroy evidence, the accused dumped Rohit’s body in a water tank.
The murder was cracked by the DB Squad comprising PI Arvind Bhole, PSIs Sagar Bhaskar, Datta Pendkar, ASIs Ramesh Chikhle, Snehlata Jaybhaye, constables Sachin Emrediwar, Sanjay Shahu, NPCs Sandip Gawli, Onkar Barabhai, Rajendra Shirbhate, Dilip Avgan, Pravin Gorte, Dinesh Chaure, Akshay Sahare, Atul Chate, Vijay Khangar, Sumendra Bopche, Dinesh Manusmare, sepoys Pravin Bhagat, Abhay Marode under the guidance DCP Zone 4 Raj Tilak Roushan, ACPs Gharge and Dhopavkar Senior PI Vinayak Chavan.
