: A year after Ruby Rai made the headlines for all the wrong reasons, this year too, Bihar Class XII topper in Arts stream Ganesh Kumar, is in the news for failing to answer some basic questions on the subject which he topped.

In an interview to a TV news channel, Ganesh Kumar stumbled over queries on music subject, in which he scored 65 out of 70 in practicals.

Kumar, who topped Class XII boards in humanities stream, shockingly said singer Lata Mangeshkar is known as ‘Maithili Kokila’, a title bestowed on folk singer Sharda Sinha, who is from Samastipur, where his school is situated.

He had appeared for the board exams at Ramnandan Singh Jagdip Narayan High school in Samastipur’s Chhakhabib village and scored 82.6 percent.

He got 92 percent in Hindi, 82 percent in music and 42 percent in social science.

However, the Bihar School Exam Board chairman Anand Kishore on Thursday gave a clean chit to the former saying no one can raise question on his merit.

Over 65% students fail Class 12 Exams in Bihar

66 percent students who took the Class 12 Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) exams this year have failed. Two girls committed suicide and another attempted suicide after failing in the exams.

Last year, scam in the Bihar Board was revealed after topper Ruby Rai secured who secured 444, marks out of 500 in the arts stream was not even bale to answer some of the basic questions related to her subjects in which she passed in.

On camera she did not even appear to know the number of subjects in her course.

What is worrying the top brass of the Bihar education department is that of the 12.61 lakh students who appeared in the BSEB exams this year, only 4.37 lakh – or 34.65 per cent – passed the exams while over 8 lakh have failed.

Last year, 11.55 lakh students appeared in the exam and 7.18 lakh or 62.19 per cent cleared it.

Mass cheating in board exams has been reported in Bihar for years. Every year, the media carries images of cheating going on at exam centres, showing scores of people climbing through windows to hand over cheating material to examinees with impunity.
