Nagpur:
Two Deputy Chief Ticket Inspectors (Dy CTIs) of South East Central Railways on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, found themselves in a complex situation but ultimately emerged the ‘winners.’ The two railway men stopped a distressed man who was hell bent on committing suicide in a running train, Shalimar Express to be precise. The moment the two Deputy Chief Ticket Inspectors got wind of the man’s nasty plan, they tactfully handled the situation till the next station. The man was later handed over to railway police.

It all happened when Ritesh Inamulla and Dinesh Kumar Pandey, both Deputy
Chief Ticket Inspectors with South East Central Railways were on duty on Shalimar Express (Train No. 18029) going to Kolkata via Nagpur on Wednesday afternoon. The man in question, Rajkumar Deshmukh (50), boarded the train from Nagpur for Kolkata on a general ticket. Deshmukh approached the two Railway staffers and asked for a berth. Subsequently, they allotted him Berth No. 49 in S-6 bogie.

As they were waiting for the train to leave for its onward journey, a fellow passenger, who was seated in the same bogie on seat number 55, informed Inamulla and Pandey that Deshmukh might attempt suicide and had written a suicide note. Both the Railway men hurried to the man. They themselves first confirmed about the suicide note the man had written from the fellow passenger. Taken aback, Inamulla and Pandey immediately alerted the RPF and GRP as also higher authorities in Commercial Department but could not get any help as the train had started moving. The duo then used their presence of mind and sat with Deshmukh chatting with him for next 10- 15 minutes without giving a hint that they know about the suicide note. As the train reached the next stop, Itwari, Inamulla and Pandey asked Deshmukh to deboard the train and handover the suicide note to them. The shocked Deshmukh calmly handed over the suicide note to the two Deputy CTIs. Later, he was handed over to the railway police for further course of action.
