Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya as 10-Day Ganesh Fest ends

Nagpur: Thousands and thousands of devotees, who cherished every moment of 10-Day Ganesh Festival, on Thursday immersed idols of the elephant-headed deity at various designated spots across the city amidst fanfare and tight security. The devotees of all ages bid adieu to Lord Ganesh on Vinayak Chaturdashi and chants of Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya reverberated across the city.

The civic administration, Nagpur Police, Fire Brigade have put in place elaborate security arrangements to ensure a peaceful ‘visarjan.’

Cranes, watchtowers and floodlights were installed at most of the major immersion spots, beside a network of CCTV cameras fixed at different locations as well as at water bodies such as Ambazari, Futala, Gandhisagar, and at other lakes. The immersion of Bappa idols commenced right from the afternoon and majority of the devotees took the advantage of artificial tanks placed at various places across the city.

To ensure smooth vehicular movement on the immersion routes, traffic police have closed many roads, while some other roads have been marked as ‘one way’. The routes from where the sarvajanik mandals and hundreds of devotees marched in lines to reach the visarjan spots were flooded with people to watch the colourful procession. Kids, youngsters including girls danced to the beats of drums and chanted Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya.

The local body made elaborate arrangements to ensure the immersion takes place without any hassles. It has installed 99 artificial tanks, 32 small ponds, 14 centering lakes,2 mobile tanks, and one cement tank for immersion of Ganpati Bappa and to protect water bodies in the city. Green Vigil Foundation and Rotary Club are extending their help in immersion at Futala Lake while Rotary Club Ishanya, Rotary Club East, Yog Sampada and Nisarg Vigyan Sanstha volunteers have stationed themselves at at Gandhi Sagar Lake. The huge idols of Ganesh Mandals are being immersed at Futala Lake only.

Tight security arrangements have been made for Ganesh immersion with deployment of a large police force at various water bodies to prevent any untoward incident. Similarly, elaborate traffic arrangements have been made.
