Nagpur: 2,000 crore have been spent on the 24/7 water supply scheme saving 80 MLD water. The government has decided to tackle the pipeline issue in unauthorised localities and within three years, Nagpur will be tanker-free,” said Union road transport and shipping minister Nitin Gadkari here on Sunday. He was speaking at the bhoomipujan ceremony of the cement road from Gayatri Towers to Mokhare Complex and public dedication ceremony of Laxmanrao Somasao Barbate Square in Lakadganj, on Sunday.
District guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, MLAs Krishna Khopde and Vikas Kumbhare, MLC Girish Vyas, NMC standing committee chairman Bandu Raut, ruling party leader in NMC Dayashankar Tiwari, transport committee chairman Balya Borkar, Kishore Kumeria, corporator Anil Dhawde, Sangita Kalamkar, Sheetal Gharat, chief engineer Ulhas Debadwar and Ratan Barbate were also present on the occasion.
Gadkari said tarring gets damaged in Nagpur withing two to three years because the soil here is black. He said he constructed cement roads in the city for this reason during his stint as guardian minister. “Water accumulation issue was taken care of by construction of drain lines alongside roads. We also started recycling polluted water,”said Gadkari.

Gadkari said decision to ply 50 ethanol buses in the city was taken to bring down pollution. “Decisions pertaining to metro rail, e-rickshaw etc were taken for public benefit. The scheme to provide affordable homes for the poor is being implemented,” said Gadkari. He also expressed satisfaction over the development work currently underway at Lakadganj panel.
Bawankule highlighted the public works underway in the city. Balya Borkar said Barbate family provided ` 10 lakh for the beautification of the city.
Satish Harde, Satish Barbate, Kishore Barbate, Shailendra Harode, Neha Barbate, Seema Harode, Raosaheb Chimote, parks superintendent Sudhir Mate and other prominent citizens were also present on the occasion.
