NAGPUR: Nagpur has delivered a strong performance in the ‘Clean Air Survey-2026’ released by the Central Pollution Control Board, making its mark among the country’s major cities. In the category of cities with populations exceeding one million, Nagpur secured 10th place nationally with 183.8 points. It ranked third among the participating cities in Maharashtra.
The performance reflects the success of various measures being implemented by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation to control air pollution. The civic body said the implementation of the Clean Air Action Plan, the use of environment-friendly e-buses, tree plantation and several other initiatives to reduce air pollution played an important role in the achievement.

Mayor Nita Thakare and Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vipin congratulated the people of Nagpur on the achievement. Deputy Mayor Leela Hathibed, Standing Committee Chairperson Shivani Dani Wakhare and ruling party leader Narendra (Balya) Borkar also congratulated Nagpur residents and welcomed the performance.
Mayor Nita Thakare said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Nagpur was progressing rapidly on the path of development. The health of Nagpur’s residents and clean air in the city were the municipal corporation’s main objectives, and the success in the survey had strengthened ongoing efforts in that direction. She expressed confidence that the achievement would inspire Nagpur to secure a place among the country’s leading liveable cities.
Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vipin attributed the achievement to the collective efforts of the civic administration and Nagpur’s residents. Various departments and employees of the municipal corporation were working continuously to effectively implement the Clean Air Action Plan. He said the milestone had been achieved with the cooperation of citizens and that more effective measures would be implemented in the future to reduce air pollution.
Focus on e-buses and tree plantation
The municipal corporation is focusing on expanding the use of environment-friendly e-buses to control air pollution in the city. At the same time, it has undertaken an ambitious project involving large-scale tree plantation. The initiative is expected to have a positive impact on the city’s air quality in the coming period.
The 10th-place finish in the Clean Air Survey has given fresh momentum to efforts aimed at achieving clean air, a greener Nagpur and a pollution-free city.
