Nagpur: In a major breakthrough, the Nagpur Police have arrested the absconding आरोपी in the attempted murder case involving the husband of a BJP corporator. The arrest was made by Crime Branch Unit-3 based on a confidential tip-off. The accused has been handed over to Kotwali Police Station Nagpur for further legal proceedings.
The shocking incident took place on Mahashivratri night around 9:30 pm in the Juni Shukrawari area under Kotwali police station limits. BJP corporator Mansi Simle had gone to a temple with her husband Nitin Shyam Simle for darshan.
Sudden Knife Attack Near Temple
After offering prayers, as the couple approached their two-wheeler, the accused — identified as Sonu Thakre — allegedly attacked them with a knife. While Mansi Simle narrowly escaped, Nitin Simle was stabbed four times, leaving him seriously injured.
Local residents rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Following the attack, the accused fled from the spot and reportedly escaped to Pachmarhi. From there, he contacted an acquaintance using an unknown person’s mobile phone. Acting on this lead, police tracked his location.
Arrest Near Loha Pul
By the time Crime Branch Unit-3 reached Pachmarhi, the accused had already left for Nagpur. As soon as he got down from a bus near Loha Pul and started walking towards Laxmi Talkies, police personnel who were lying in wait arrested him.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed that the attack was carried out due to political rivalry. However, police are investigating whether the assault was executed at someone’s behest (supari) or due to personal enmity.
Further investigation is underway, and more details are expected to emerge soon.
