Nagpur: All sensitive polling stations in Nagpur were placed under close surveillance through live webcasting during the Nagpur Municipal Corporation elections, ensuring constant monitoring of on-ground activities and smooth coordination between the civic administration and the police.
To closely track movements at 261 sensitive polling stations across the city and respond swiftly to any overcrowding or law-and-order situation, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation set up a City Operating Centre (COC) control room at its headquarters. The control room was established on the sixth floor of the civic body’s main building on the directions of Municipal Commissioner and Election Officer Dr Abhijit Chaudhary.
Live visuals from sensitive polling booths were displayed on three large screens at the COC, allowing officials to monitor activities in real time. Surveillance began at 5.30 am and continued until the completion of the polling process.
The COC was managed by a 13-member team led by Deputy Commissioner Milind Meshram and COC Controller Swapnil Lokhande, with police officials also stationed at the centre. In case of any law-and-order concern, police officers at the COC immediately relayed information to field personnel for prompt action.
According to officials, Zone 6 recorded the highest number of sensitive polling stations (81), followed by Zone 7 with 52 and Zone 4 with 32. Zone 5 had 31 sensitive booths, while Zones 9 and 10 had 22 and 14 respectively. The lowest number of sensitive polling stations were reported in Zone 3 (6) and Zone 8 (7).

Officials said the integrated surveillance and tracking mechanism played a key role in ensuring a smooth, transparent, and incident-free polling process across Nagpur.
