Nagpur: In a glaring example of systemic negligence, a major theft has rocked the iconic Ram Jhula Cable-Stayed Overbridge, where as many as 22 high-value projectors and 66 LED lights from the state-of-the-art illumination system were stolen without anyone noticing for weeks.
The complaint was lodged by Dilip Wanjari, in-charge Assistant Engineer of Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Gandhibagh Zone, at the Tehsil Police Station. According to officials, the advanced lighting setup had been installed on August 14, 2025, and its security was entrusted to Garuda Security Services.
Shockingly, it was only on November 6 that supervisor Niraj Milind Tembhurnikar alerted authorities about missing projector lights. A spot inspection confirmed the theft, prompting the police to register a case against unidentified accused.
The incident raises serious questions about the credibility of the security agency and the monitoring system in place. How such large-scale equipment could be removed from a prominent structure, without triggering alarms or being noticed by security staff, has left citizens disturbed and sceptical about the city’s infrastructure safety.
Police have begun investigations, but the theft has already exposed a deep crack in the administration’s oversight and security preparedness. Residents now fear that if such blatant theft can occur at a landmark location, no public asset in the city is truly safe.
