Copper pipe theft busted, two arrested by Nagpur Crime Branch

Nagpur: Crime Branch Unit-1 of Nagpur Police has busted a major theft case involving copper pipes from a company warehouse in Ajni. Two accused have been arrested, while three others are still wanted in the case. The operation was conducted under the guidance of senior police officials from Nagpur City Police.

According to the complaint, Vilas Vitthalrao Thombre (37), a resident of Banait Nagar, Beltarodi, had stored 11 bundles of copper pipes at his company’s warehouse located at J/01, Mansion Apartment, P-49, Central Colony, on November 13. During inspection on November 26, he found six bundles of copper pipes worth Rs 3.5 lakh missing. The complainant checked CCTV footage, which revealed that around 4 am on November 18, unidentified burglars had entered the premises and were seen carrying the stolen material out of the warehouse.

Based on his report, Ajni Police registered a case under Section 303(2) of the IPC against unknown accused.

During a parallel investigation, Crime Branch Unit-1 used technical surveillance and confidential intelligence to track down the suspects. The team detained two accused identified as Imran Sheikh Jabbar Sheikh (25), a resident of Vitabhatti Square, Yashodharanagar, and Vijay alias Vitthal Ramsingh Madavi (32), a resident of Gulshan Nagar, Kalamna. During interrogation, the duo confessed to committing the theft along with three accomplices identified as fugitive accused Ganna, Khoka, and Lucky Shahu.

The police seized 12 kg of copper pipes valued at Rs 3,36,000 from the possession of the arrested accused. Both suspects have been handed over to Ajni Police for further legal action. Search operations are underway to trace the remaining accused.

The action was executed under the supervision of Police Commissioner Ravindrakumar Singal, Joint Commissioner of Police Navin Chand Reddy, Additional CP (Crime) Vasant Pardeshi, DCP (Detection) Rahul Makanikar, and ACP (Crime Branch) Abhijeet Patil. The investigation team included PI Amol Deshmukh, API Rajabhau Jadhav, and policemen Yogesh Vasanik, Ravi Ahir, Nitin Vasanik, Hemant Lonare, Sunit Gujar, Sharad Chambhare, Ravindra Khedekar, and WPC Shubhangi Datir.

Further investigation is underway.
