Nagpur: The height restriction barrier at the Zero Mile end of the Shaheed Gowari Flyover was found severely damaged on Thursday morning after an unidentified heavy vehicle reportedly crashed into it during the early hours. This marks the third such incident in recent months, intensifying concerns over the recurring breach of safety norms on the busy flyover.

Commuters travelling in the morning were the first to notice the mangled metal structure lying on the road, following which images and videos quickly circulated across social media platforms. Citizens voiced outrage over the repeated negligence and questioned why enforcement mechanisms have consistently failed.

The barrier had been installed specifically to restrict the entry of heavy vehicles, particularly trucks and trailers, which are banned on the flyover to avoid structural risk and ensure smooth traffic flow. However, despite warning boards and signages, rule violations continue unabated.

Residents and daily commuters have demanded urgent intervention in the form of CCTV surveillance, stricter policing, and heavier penalties for offenders. They argue that unless transport operators are held accountable, such accidents will continue to endanger motorists.

Authorities are expected to inspect the damaged site and review preventive measures. No official statement had been issued so far.
