Nagpur: A 19-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her husband in the Mankapur area of Nagpur after a heated confrontation over her suspected extramarital relationship. The crime came to light after the post-mortem report confirmed death due to strangulation, prompting the police to arrest the accused.
The accused, Sunil Narayan Yaduvanshi (26), and the victim, Rani Yaduvanshi, both originally from Madhya Pradesh, had moved to Nagpur recently in search of work. Sunil was employed at Dawat Lawn on Mankapur Ring Road, where the couple lived with Sunil’s mother and their eight-month-old daughter in a small servant quarter.
According to police, Sunil had been suspicious for months that Rani was involved with another man, leading to frequent arguments. The situation escalated late Saturday night when Sunil returned home allegedly drunk after dining with friends. He found Rani speaking on the phone and, upon questioning, she abruptly disconnected the call and deleted the number. A quarrel broke out, turning violent when Sunil slapped her and she retaliated. In a rage, he allegedly pushed her down and strangled her.
Realising that Rani was unresponsive, Sunil informed his mother, and the two took Rani to Mayo Hospital, claiming she had suddenly fallen ill. Mankapur Police initially treated the case as an accidental death, but nail marks on her neck aroused suspicion. The post-mortem later confirmed strangulation.
Based on a complaint from Rani’s relative, Tularam Yadav, police booked Sunil for murder. He was arrested and produced before the court, which remanded him to police custody.
