Nagpur: Police have registered a criminal case against two brothers for an alleged unlawful occupation of two plots of land owned by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), authorities said. Ambazhari Police Station filed the FIR after a written complaint from Pundalik Manikrao Dhore, junior engineer of NMC’s Dharampeth Zone-2.
According to the complaint, the brothers — Mahendra Purushottam Jichkar and Narendra Purushottam Jichkar are accused of illegally occupying municipal land in the Pandhrabodi area since 2016. The two disputed parcels, recorded under khasra no. 15 and municipal survey no. 50, include a main plot and an adjoining grazing/field portion.
NMC officials say repeated notices to vacate went unheeded. Following clear directions from the Municipal Commissioner on November 7, 2025, the zone office confirmed the land belonged to the corporation and forwarded a detailed report of the encroachment to police. Ambazhari police then registered FIR No. 533/2025 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023.
The case lodged late at night is being investigated under the supervision of Inspector Vinod Godbole. Authorities said the probe will examine the nature of the encroachment, any documents presented by the accused, and the exact period of unlawful possession. The development has drawn attention to long-standing municipal land disputes and the challenges of reclaiming civic property.
