Nagpur’s missing minor boy traced in Chhattisgarh under ‘Operation Shodh 2’

Nagpur: A year-and-a-half after two minors went missing from a juvenile home in Kapilnagar, Nagpur, one of the children was traced and rescued from Dhaneri village in Khairagarh taluka, Chhattisgarh, police said on Thursday.

Fifty-eight-year-old complainant Krishna Shyamrao Hiwrale of Koradi had approached Kapilnagar police station on May 5, 2024, alleging that at about 3:30 am two juveniles staying at the juvenile home in Patankar Chowk, Kapilnagar, Nagpur, left the institution without informing anyone and did not return. The complainant said the boys could not be found and suspected they had been lured away by unknown persons. An FIR was registered under Section 363 of the Indian Penal Code (kidnapping) following the complaint.

As part of a specially launched investigation codenamed “Operation Shodh 2”, the Crime Branch and the Anti-Human Trafficking Prevention Unit carried out parallel technical and field inquiries. Based on reliable leads and technical inputs, investigators discovered that one of the missing boys was in Dhaneri village, Khairagarh taluka, in Chhattisgarh.

On November 13, 2025, police teams travelled to the village, located the minor, took him into custody and conducted a detailed interrogation. The boy was counselled by officials and later handed over to Kapilnagar police for further legal formalities and care.

Senior city police officials who guided the operation include Police Commissioner Ravindrakumar Singal, Additional Police Commissioner Navinchandra Reddy, Additional Police Commissioner (Crime) Vasant Pardeshi, Deputy Commissioner (Detection) Rahul Maknikar and Additional Police Commissioner (Crime Branch) Abhijeet Patil.

Field officers credited with the on-ground work were Woman PI Lalita Todase, ASI Ram Nirgulwar, Sachin Shrirame and Rishikesh Dumre, the police said.

The recovered juvenile has been provided counselling and will be produced before the appropriate child welfare authorities while the probe into the circumstances of the two boys’ disappearance and the alleged involvement of unknown persons continues.
