
Nagpur: Records tumbled on the synthetic track of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) on Wednesday with as many as four new meet records created on the opening day of the Inter-Collegiate Annual Athletics meet. The men and women 100 metres meet records were rewritten while another record in 1500 metres men’s section was created.
Gaurav Khodatkar of Arts and Commerce Night College, started the record breaking spree in the morning winning the 1500 metres race in 49.56 seconds. The previous record was held by Saurabh Tiwari who ran the 1500m race in 3 minutes 51.83 seconds. In the men’s 100m, Aniket Nalawade of Arunrao Kalode College Nagpur sprinted to the finish line in 10.57 seconds breaking the record of Adarsh Bhure of Vidyabharti, Seloo (10.70s) created in 2023.
Similarly in the women’s section, Dhanashri Kamthe of CMS College emerged winner with a record-breaking run. She dashed to the finish line in 12.15 seconds to create new meet record. The previous record was held by V Nageshwari of SFS College (12.61s) in 2023. In the women’s 1500m, Mitali Bhoyar, representing Shri Chakrapani Mahavidyalaya, claimed the gold medal with a time of 04:33.25s, a new meet record. She broke her own record created in 2023.
Earlier, the meet was inaugurated by Dr Samay Bansod, Member of the Governor Nominated Management Council, RTMNU. On the occasion, Harish Paliwal, Arjuna and Dronacharya Awardee Vijay Munishwar, University Sports and Physical Education Department Director Dr Sambhaji Bhosale, Deputy Director of Sports and Youth Directorate Pallavi Dhatrak, NMC Sports Officer Dr Piyush Ambulkar, Principal Dr Vishakha Joshi, Principal Dr Vijay Datarkar and others were present.
The four-day annual competition is being organised under the able guidance of Dr Aditya Soni and Dr Sanjay Chaudhary. The programme was conducted by Dr Padmakar Charmode while Dr Aditya Soni proposed a vote of thanks.
