Nagpur: In a moving example of police compassion and teamwork, Wathoda police traced a missing 10-year-old boy from Shravan Nagar within just a few hours on Wednesday — reuniting him safely with his family after an emotional manhunt.

The boy had reportedly fled home after taking ₹2,000 from his mother and fearing her scolding. When his parents couldn’t find him by evening, they rushed to the Wathoda Police Station. Acting swiftly, Senior Police Inspector Harish Borade informed Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Niketan Kadam, who immediately ordered the formation of five dedicated search teams. Each team included one family member to ensure quick identification and communication.

Under DCP Kadam’s supervision, police squads spread out across local lanes, playgrounds, schools, and nearby areas. The boy’s friends and schoolmates were also brought in to help provide clues, while local residents and volunteers joined the coordinated search effort.

After hours of tireless searching, the child was finally located safe and sound, bringing immense relief to his anxious family. Inspector Borade praised the efforts of his team — PSI Swapnil Raut, Madhav Gundekar, and Atul Pawar — for their prompt action and sensitivity that made the rescue possible within hours.

Commending the collective effort, DCP Kadam said,

“This operation shows how community participation and timely coordination can save lives. Parents should stay alert to their children’s movements, especially after school hours. Nagpur Police remains dedicated to ensuring the safety of every child in our city.”

He further appealed to parents to stay vigilant — monitor children’s routines, confirm details of school transport drivers, avoid oversharing information online, and contact the police helpline 112 immediately if a child goes missing.

As directed by DCP Kadam, the rescued boy will now undergo counselling to provide emotional support and prevent such incidents in the future.
