Pune: Amid the political uproar over a controversial land deal involving 40 acres in Mundhwa, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Thursday clarified that the State Government is taking the matter seriously and assured that “no guilty person will be spared.” He appealed to the public and political parties to refrain from making assumptions until the inquiry is completed.

The controversy erupted after allegations surfaced that the government suffered a loss of Rs 5.89 crore in stamp duty in a land transaction involving Amedia Company and Parth Pawar, son of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Based on a complaint lodged by Sub-Registrar Santosh Hingane, a case has been registered at Bavdhan Police Station against Sheetal Tejwani, Digvijay Patil, and Ravindra Taru.

Bawankule stated, “At present, an offence has been registered only against those who were directly involved in the transaction and signed the documents. Parth Pawar’s name does not appear at this stage; however, if new evidence emerges during the probe, action will be taken without hesitation.”

According to the Pune Police Commissioner’s office, eight individuals have been booked in the case so far. The complaint alleges that Sheetal Tejwani claimed to hold the power of attorney for the land sale, while Digvijay Patil signed the sale deed as a business partner of Parth Pawar. Ravindra Taru, meanwhile, allegedly failed to collect the required stamp duty during the registration process, causing financial loss to the government.

During the investigation, a crucial document surfaced, a board resolution passed on April 22, 2025, by Amedia Company, authorizing Digvijay Patil to sign on behalf of Parth Pawar. Barely a month later, on May 20, the land transaction was executed, and a copy of the authorization letter was attached to the sale deed. Sources suggest that this could point to an indirect role of Parth Pawar in the deal.

Bawankule further informed that a five-member inquiry committee headed by Vikas Kharge has been constituted to probe the issue. “The inquiry will be conducted in a transparent and impartial manner. There will be no attempt to shield the guilty or to target the innocent,” he emphasized.

Key takeaway:

Despite the escalating political slugfest over the Mundhwa land deal, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has maintained that the probe will be fair and unbiased, urging restraint until the investigation concludes.
