NMC Cracks Down on Chicken Market Near Airport

Nagpur: Following two incidents of bird strikes involving aircraft over the past month, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has stepped up its vigilance. On Tuesday, the civic body carried out an anti-encroachment drive at the chicken market in Shastri Layout under the Laxmi Nagar Zone.

The operation, conducted between 12 noon and 6:30 pm, involved Zone Officer, Engineer Malve from the main office, six staff members, one JCB, one truck, and a six-member NDS team led by Officer Khandare.

During the drive, officials seized 12 illegal shops, two iron stands, and one trampoline. According to civic officials, poultry farms and meat-selling outlets near the airport attract large numbers of birds, increasing the risk of bird strikes during aircraft take-off and landing.

The NMC administration has made it clear that strict action will continue against such businesses and encroachments in the vicinity of the airport. Citizens have also been urged not to start commercial activities in these areas in the interest of public safety.
