Nagpur: Bajaj Nagar Police have registered an offence against the management of Reliance Smart Superstore in Laxmi Nagar following revelations of illegal construction and parking misuse linked to the massive fire on Laxmi Pujan night (October 21).
The blaze, which raged for nearly six hours, exposed major safety lapses and unauthorized structural modifications inside the store.
Anil Dwarkadas Gandhi (68), a resident of Laxmi Nagar, filed a complaint alleging negligence and violation of building norms. Those named in the FIR include Vinod Santosh Hasani, Suresh Parmanand Tolani, officials of Reliance Mart, Reliance Retail Ltd., and others associated with HMT Associates and Mahachaha.
Police said the fire broke out around 9 PM, quickly spreading through the building amid festive celebrations. Multiple fire tenders were rushed, and the flames were doused after a prolonged six-hour operation.
