Nagpur: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat turned 75 on Thursday, an occasion that has drawn wishes and tributes from across the political and social spectrum. He was born on September 11, 1950.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his wishes to Mohan Bhagwat on his 75th birthday, acknowledging his leadership, contributions, and personal qualities.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, “Inspired by the principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, Shri Mohan Bhagwat Ji has dedicated his entire life to societal transformation and strengthening the spirit of harmony and fraternity. On the special occasion of his 75th birthday, I have penned a few thoughts on Mohan Ji and his inspiring personality. Praying for his long and healthy life in service of Maa Bharti,” he added,
In a detailed blog post, the Prime Minister reflected on Bhagwat’s early years in the RSS, his role in national movements, and his leadership style. “Mohan Bhagwat Ji has always been a strong votary of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat,’” he said.
Known as one of the most influential figures in Indian public life, Bhagwat has played a pivotal role in shaping the direction of the Sangh and its outreach. Bhagwat started working as an RSS ‘paracharak’ about 50 years ago and became its Sarsanghchalak in March 2009, rising through the ranks. His father, Madhukarrao Bhagwat, was also a ‘pracharak’, meaning a full-time RSS worker. Bhagwat was the RSS Sarkaryavah (general secretary), second-in-command, before he was made the organisation’s chief. Earlier, he served as the RSS’ Akhil Bharatiya Sharirik Pramukh (national in-charge of physical training).

1. Educational background: Mohan Bhagwat holds a bachelor’s degree in veterinary science and a postgraduate degree in agricultural science.
