Over 27,000 Nagpurians visit Sitabuldi Fort on Independence Day

Nagpur: The historic Sitabuldi Fort in the heart of Nagpur City witnessed a massive turnout on the occasion of the 79th Independence Day, with as many as 27,632 visitors thronging the site on August 15.

The Fort, located inside the Uttar Maharashtra and Gujarat Sub Area Complex, was specially opened for the public. According to Defence PRO Nagpur, Group Captain Ratnakar Singh, the response this year surpassed the Republic Day footfall in January 2025, when around 26,800 citizens had visited the fort.

The surge in visitors once again highlighted the grandeur and popularity of Sitabuldi Fort, a historic structure that stands as a reminder of Nagpur’s rich heritage and colonial architecture.

Security and crowd management were efficiently handled by Nagpur Police and Military Police, ensuring smooth entry and movement of visitors. The hospitality of the soldiers, despite their demanding duties, left the public impressed. Patriotic songs filled the air along the heritage route, prompting many to dance and celebrate the spirit of freedom.

Arrangements for drinking water, food stalls, medical assistance, and ambulances at entry and exit points were in place. The crowd swelled after 1 pm, with several groups engrossed in taking selfies, dancing to music, and enjoying the festive atmosphere.

Considering the overwhelming response, the Army authorities extended the visiting hours from 4 pm to 4:45 pm, allowing more people to experience the historic monument. The gesture was warmly appreciated by the citizens, who expressed gratitude towards the administration for a memorable Independence Day outing.
