Nagpur: BJP MLA from Saoner Ashish Deshmukh has been fined Rs 2,500 for riding a bike without a helmet at a Tiranga Rally on Wednesday. Nagpur Rural Police issued the challan to the MLA on Thursday for violating traffic rules during the rally.
A video of Deshmukh riding a fire brigade motorcycle, with a khaki-clad fire department personnel as pillion, went viral on social media, sparking public outrage. Netizens questioned the use of a government vehicle and the personnel’s role in allowing the violation. The rural police clarified that the motorcycle belonged to the fire brigade, and the pillion rider was a fire department employee. The incident drew criticism, with many calling for stricter adherence to traffic rules by public representatives.
MLA Deshmukh led the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ rally organised by the Saoner unit of BJP. The video recording of the rally was scanned by the cops and whoever was riding without a helmet was issued e-challan. Besides not wearing the helmet, the participants in the rally also violated traffic rules and hence they were hauled-up by the cops.
