Nagpur: With Independence Day just around the corner, Nagpur’s bustling markets have transformed into vibrant pockets of patriotism. From the narrow lanes of Sitabuldi to the busy stalls of Dharampeth, shopfronts are awash in saffron, white, and green.
National flags in all sizes flutter in the breeze, while kites, badges, scarves, caps, and festoons jostle for space on makeshift stands. Decorative buntings drape over shop entrances, catching the eye of passersby. Vendors are seen busily arranging fresh stock, some even offering “Independence Day combo packs” with flags, badges, and caps bundled together.
Shoppers, from schoolchildren clutching pocket money to families picking up home decorations, are streaming in to get their patriotic essentials. “Every year, we wait for this season. It’s not just about business, it’s about being part of the celebrations,” said a shopkeeper in Gandhibagh, as he helped a customer choose a large flag for her apartment balcony.
The festive spirit is also spilling into street corners, where vendors with armfuls of tiny flags approach motorists at traffic signals. With just days left, the demand is expected to peak, and the city’s tricolour glow will only grow brighter, a visual reminder of pride, unity, and the love for the motherland.
