Nagpur cops bust fake police job racket, mastermind nabbed in Amravati

Nagpur: Beltarodi Police in Nagpur have registered a case of financial fraud against three people from Yavatmal for cheating job aspirants by promising recruitment in various Government departments.

The accused have been identified as Jagdish alias Pradeep alias Prakash Namdev Chavan alias Jagdish Namdev Rathod (35), Shalu Jagdish Rathod and Pooja Nikhil Chavan. The case was registered on the complaint of Swapnil Ashok Mate (26), a resident of Aroli, Tehsil Mauda, district Nagpur.

The accused extorted large amounts of cash and online payments from aspirants by luring them with promises of recruitment in the Police Department, Health Department, Metro Nagpur, Railways, and the Army.

The main accused, Jagdish alias Pradeep alias Prakash Chavan alias Jagdish Rathod, was arrested after Nagpur police chief Ravinder Singal began monitoring the case. Using the latest technology, his location was tracked down before the Beltarodi police team led by Senior Inspector Mukund Kawade netted him from Amravati on Monday.

The accused frequently changed his location as he was staying only a few days in each district to avoid detection. The main accused has several serious cases registered against him under IPC Sections 420, 465, 468, 471, 499, and 506. He had been absconding in a case at Avadhutwadi Police Station, Yavatmal and had earlier escaped trial due to his unavailability in court. The city police have urged citizens not to pay money for Government jobs and to immediately report any such demand to the nearest police station.

Method of fraud

Investigations revealed that the accused pretended to be a clerk at the Amravati Police Commissionerate. He created a fake police I-card to gain people’s trust and then collected lakhs of rupees by promising Government jobs. Using fake appointment letters and IDs, he siphoned off lakhs of rupees from the victims.
