Nagpur: A 38-year-old LPG cylinder delivery boy sustained a grievous head injury after being assaulted with a hammer over a petty rivalry in the Sadar Police Station area. The accused, identified as Waman Panchoule (54), was arrested and produced in court on Tuesday.
The victim, Firoz Lalchand Lavhatre, a resident of Mohan Nagar, Khalasi Line, works as a domestic LPG cylinder delivery boy. Panchoule, who drives a cylinder supply vehicle, reportedly harboured resentment against Firoz over tips received from customers.
According to police, Firoz had built a friendly rapport with several customers who preferred calling him directly for cylinder installations, often tipping him Rs 10-Rs 20 for the service. This small but steady extra income allegedly irked Panchoule, who frequently taunted Firoz, calling him a “thief” and “extortionist.”
The simmering tension escalated on Saturday during a heated verbal exchange between the two. On Monday evening, Panchoule allegedly lured Firoz to Chaurasia Chowk, where he struck him on the head with a hammer in an apparent attempt to kill him.
A video of the attack, now circulating on social media, purportedly shows Panchoule waiting at the spot before launching the assault. Police suspect that two other individuals may have been involved in the incident.
Sadar Police have registered a case of attempt to murder under relevant sections of the IPC and are conducting further investigations.
