Nagpur: In a tragic industrial accident, a 40-year-old woman was killed on Sunday afternoon when her hair got entangled in the rollers of a cotton ginning machine at a mattress shop in Kotwali, Nagpur.
The victim, Kalpana Rupchand Kamdi, a resident of Old Mangalwari near Pintu Saoji Hotel in Lakadganj, was operating the machine at Bharat Gaadi House, located near Nawabpura Masjid and owned by Mohammed Ijaz Sheikh (43), when the mishap occurred around 2.30 pm.
According to police, the powerful rollers caught her hair and dragged her in, inflicting grievous injuries before co-workers could intervene. She died on the spot.
Kotwali Police reached the scene soon after being alerted by the shop owner. The body was sent for post-mortem, and an accidental death report (ADR) has been registered. Investigators are now examining whether lapses in workplace safety contributed to the fatality.
Police sources said this incident underscores the risks faced by workers in small manufacturing units where machinery often lacks adequate safety guards.
