Mumbai – The Maharashtra government has revised the timeline for the ward delimitation process being undertaken in preparation for the upcoming municipal corporation elections. As per the new notification, all Municipal Commissioners in the state will now have until September 6, 2025, instead of the earlier deadline of September 1, to submit the final ward delimitation report to the State Election Commission.
This extension has been attributed to technical complexities in administrative procedures and the need for a comprehensive analysis of population data.
Delay in Local Body Elections Likely
Earlier, it was expected that elections might be held around Diwali, but following Monday’s revised order regarding ward delimitation, it now appears that the elections may take place towards the end of the year. On June 12, the state government had issued an order setting September 1 as the last date to publish ward structures for major municipal corporations including Mumbai and Nagpur.
However, on Monday, the Urban Development Department issued a revised directive, setting October 6 as the final date for publishing ward structures for Category A, B, and C municipal corporations.
This revision makes it clear that elections will now be delayed.
