Tragedy strikes: Two Nagpurians among victims of Ahmedabad-London Air India crash

Nagpur: In a heart-wrenching tragedy, two residents of Nagpur are reported to be among the victims of the fatal Air India crash that occurred near Ahmedabad airport on Thursday afternoon. The flight, which was bound for London, went down shortly after take-off at 1:17 pm, claiming the lives of all 242 people on board, including 232 passengers and 10 crew members.

One of the Nagpur deceased has been identified as Yasha Kamdar, a young Nagpurian who was reportedly on her way to the UK. The identity of the second victim from Nagpur is yet to be confirmed.

Nagpur Today attempted to reach the Kamdar family for more information. Though grief-stricken and unable to speak at length, Kashish Kamdar confirmed that his sister, Yasha, was on the ill-fated flight. “We are still trying to get in touch with the authorities for more information,” he said, his voice heavy with emotion.

The aircraft was carrying a diverse group of international travellers, including 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, 7 Portuguese citizens, and one Canadian passenger. Rescue operations are ongoing at the crash site, though hopes of finding survivors have been all but dashed.

This tragedy has cast a pall of gloom over Nagpur, where families and friends of the victims await official confirmation and further details. The aviation authorities have initiated a high-level investigation to determine the cause of the crash, even as condolences pour in from across the country and abroad.
