Nagpur: In a significant crackdown, the Social Security Cell of Nagpur City Crime Branch arrested a 40-year-old man for possessing a deadly weapon in the Mankapur Police Station jurisdiction.
The accused, identified as Abdul Wahid Wajid Qureshi, a resident of Skyline Imperial, Nanhe Layout, was found carrying a steel sword during a patrolling operation on the evening of June 2, 2025, between 7 pm and 10:30 pm.
Acting on suspicion, the Social Security Cell team spotted Qureshi roaming the area with the weapon, allegedly with an intent to commit a cognizable offence. Upon questioning and search, the police recovered the steel sword, valued around Rs 2,000, from his possession.
After a medical examination, the accused was handed over to the Mankapur Police Station for further legal action. A case has been registered under Sections 4 and 25 of the Arms Act, along with Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act.
According to police sources, Qureshi is a habitual offender and is currently out on bail in a MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act) case.
This operation was carried out under the guidance of PI Omprakash Sontakke, with a team comprising HC Prakash Mathankar (complainant), HC Sachin, PC Ashwin Mange, Sameer Shaikh, Kunal Masram, Kunal Bokde, and WPC Poonam Shende.
