Nagpur: The Beltarodi police and Crime Branch in Nagpur recreated the scene, during which Senior Police Inspector Ashok Koli of Kapil Nagar Police Station misplaced his service revolver, so that the firearm could be recovered. CCTV footage shows the firearm was on the roof of Koli’s car as he drove on for around 15km on Sunday before likely falling off on the Jabalpur-Bhandara Road.
Koli, before starting from his residence at Beltarodi for Mouda, kept his uniform inside his personal car and the loaded gun on the vehicle’s roof at around 9.40 am. The cop had a conversation with someone before stepping into the car. Later, he drove out from his residence but forgot to pick up the firearm from the car’s roof. He realized this at 3.40 pm after reaching Kapil Nagar Police Station.
Cops inquired with pedestrians, roadside dhaba employees, pan kiosk owners, residents of adjacent villages, bikers, cyclists and others on the way during foot patrolling. Some cops even promised a reward of Rs 10,000 to anyone giving information about the firearm.
As per a senior cop probing the case, the firearm was seen on the car’s roof until it passed a hotel on Bhandara road at Beedgaon, which is around 15 km from Koli’s residence. Police searched for around 37 km from Beedgaon to Mathni toll naka in Mouda, said the cop.
