Nagpur: When Devendra Fadnavis was the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, he had approved the filling up of 17,000 posts in Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). But he had also directed the recruiting of posts according to the income category. The civic body has been struggling to increase the revenue of the Municipal Corporation so that the vacant posts could be filled up. Today four years have passed and Fadnavis is now the Deputy Chief Minister of the state.
According to a report in a local Hindi daily, Fadnavis has recently announced recruitment of 75,000 posts across the state, but the file of recruitment of 17,000 posts in NMC is lying in the dust. If the contours of all these posts are done, then there will be a burden of Rs 50 crore on the NMC every month. Due to the condition of recruitment according to income by the then alliance Government, it is becoming difficult for the recruitment of new posts. Due to very few employees, the work of city development and maintenance is getting affected, the report added.
20-25 employees retire every month
The situation is that every month 20 to 25 officers and employees of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation are retiring. Many have applied for voluntary retirement. The staff is continuously decreasing and the posts are not being recruited.
The contours of 17,334 posts were approved in which Deputy Commissioner 7, City Engineer 9, Executive Engineer (Estate) 28, Project Administrator 1, Deputy Engineer (Estate), 94, Junior Engineer, 302, Inspector 233, Engineering Assistant 448, Malaria Survey Worker 100, Security Guard 440, Field Staff 500, Road Safai employees 8660, and other posts are included. In the Fire Department also 872 posts are sanctioned but only 218 employees are doing the job, the report said.
