Nagpur: The Day 2 of the 31st Dr Vasantrao Deshpande Smruti Sangeet Samaroh at Dr Deshpande Hall witnessed an amazing confluence of music and dance. Artists performing mesmerising ‘Kathak Ballet’ on Friday. The ballet was presented by ‘Nadroop’, Shama Bhate and Group from Pune.
The theme of Kathak ballet was ‘Ram Lalla’ taking the people through the life of Lord Ram. This ballet was based on the saga being told during kirtan, Ram Gatha, bhajans performed by Ram devotees in the temple. Episodes like Sita Swayamvar, Sita Haran, Jatayu Moksha, Ashok Vatika, Lanka Dahan, Ram-Ravan battle were brought alive on the stage by artistes. The entire presentation was conceptualised, written and directed by Bhate herself.
The second presentation was by Prasad Khaparde, a young artiste from Yavatmal. He presented classical vocal recitals. His Hindustani classical music struck the right chords. He started his performance with a rendition of ‘Vilambit Khayal and Drut Bandish’ in Raga Megh Malhar. He concluded with the famous Thumri ‘Yaad Piya.’
The final presentation of the second day was by Padma Shri Pandit Dr Yella Venkateswara Rao and Group from Hyderabad, ‘Talvadya Kacheri.’ He started his performance of ‘Vitapi Kriti’ in Adi tala in Raga Hamsadhwani. After this, he gave a melodious rendition of Raga Jog. He concluded with the rendition of ‘Vaishnav Jana To’ in Raga Khamas.
