Nagpur: The mystery behind recovery of a man naked decomposed body from the dicky of a scrapped car in Tehsil police jurisdiction on April 15 has been solved.
Zone 3 cops first established the identity of the deceased man as Kartik Shelokar a resident of Kalamna. Armed with the identification of the deceased, cops rounded up a couple staying at an abandoned dilapidated railway quarter opposite the scrap dealer Naushad’s shop on the charges of murder.
According to police sources, Shelokar was mentally disturbed and had been admitted at Mayo Hospital on April 11 with complaints of some stomach ailment. The next day, he had escaped from Mayo Hospital after a fight and scuffle with his aunt. She had tried to look for him for some time and then lodged a missing complaint at Tehsil Police Station on April 12.
Police believe Shelokar was murdered later the same day, with the assailant assaulting him on the back of his head. After finding the body in the car, Tehsil police had rounded up a couple staying at an abandoned dilapidated railway quarter opposite Naushad’s scrap shop for questioning. The couple admitted to murdering the man, but claimed to be unsure of his name. Sources said the couple first claimed the deceased had strayed into their shelter and started forcing himself upon the woman. Her husband intervened and the couple ganged up to eliminate him.
Later, the woman changed her version to say that the deceased was her first husband. He had come to have sex with her when her current husband came back and spotted them in a compromising position. In a fit of rage, he attacked the man with an iron rod and killed him. The couple then dumped the body at the car’s dickey and fled the premises.
In the meantime, Shelokar’s family members landed up at Tehsil police station to find out the status of their missing complaint. The cops showed them images of Kartik’s body, including the Lord Hanuman tattoo on the right hand. The family recognised the tattoo and other description of the body, leading to his identification.
