State Cabinate meeting land for  IIM, AIIMS, Govt Engineering College in NagpurNagpur: In the significant decisions concerning Nagpur city, the State Cabinet on Tuesday formally approved allotment of lands for setting up three prestigious institutions – Indian Institute of Management (IIM), All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Government Engineering College – in the city.

The State Cabinet, in a meeting held at Mantralaya in Mumbai on Tuesday, decided to provide 143 acre land to IIM, 150 acres to AIIMS and 11.67 acres of land to Government Engineering College. At present the IIM is functioning from VNIT premises.

All these three projects hold significance for the Second Capital City of Nagpur. Lands for the three education-related institutes were already selected in different locations. After selecting the lands, the District Administration had sent the proposal to State Government for final decision and handing over of the lands. Subsequently, the State Cabinet gave its seal of approval to the proposal on Tuesday.

The Central Government has sanctioned the 950-bed state-of-the-art AIIMS for Nagpur and even made a provision of Rs 1577 crore. Once the project is completed, health services in Nagpur would be world class and the efforts in making the city a ‘Health Service City’ would get a boost.
