Nagpur: A Police Constable attached to Ambazari Police Station was arrested on the charges of embezzling seized cash and gold ornaments kept in the ‘Malkhana’ of the police station. The accused cop allegedly sold and mortgaged gold and silver ornaments and stole a huge cash collectively valued at Rs 37.87 lakh.
According to police, the accused Constable Dilip Chorpagar was attached to Ambazari Police Station since the year 2004 to 8.12.2015. While the accused cop was working in the police station he was in-charge of ‘Malkhana’ (Storeroom) where seized gold ornaments, cash and other stuff are kept.
The accused Dilip Chorpagar allegedly pilfered cash of Rs 11,02,300 and gold-silver ornaments worth over Rs 26 lakh. The accused mortgaged and sold some of the ornaments and pocketed the money for his own use. When the embezzlement came to the notice of higher police officials, the accused Police Constable Dilip Chorpagar was booked under Section 420 of IPC and taken into custody.
