Nagpur: Modernizing the police net-working across the state of Maharashtra, the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and System (CCTNS) was formally launched at the hands of Maharashtra Governor C Vidyasagar Rao and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday, Sept 15, 2015 at Persistence System Pvt Ltd, I T Park, here in the city. With this Central government sponsored latest technological installation, Maharashtra police department has become the first state in the country. Several officers of police and administrative departments were present on the occasion.
Expressing his views on the occasion, Governor Vidyasagar Rao said, “CCTNS will not only provide relief to citizens but also help nabbing the criminals and bring transparency in judicial process. While the police force will become powerful with this system, the public in general should not be put to inconvenience.”
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, “Maharashtra has become the first state to introduce CCTNS, providing transparency in recording of crimes and expediting the justice. After becoming CM, I realized that the government did pay attention to the size of police personnel but not to the development of technology in the functioning of the force. I believe that the police will have to become public-oriented as well as app-oriented in public interest. Within few days, the entire Pune city will come under complete police surveillance, so will be all 10 smart cities under electronic surveillance. In this way, we also will be able to make our police as developed as the police abroad is. As many as 11,0000 personnel will be made technically skilled by CCTNS.”

What is CCTNS?
The CCTNS aims at making the functioning of police department paper-free, using the latest technology for detection of crimes and expediting the judicial process. Under the guidance of Central Government every state police has to be equipped with CCTNS, but on experiment basis it has been implemented in Maharashtra. With this system now as many as 1041 police stations across the state shall be linked with internet connectivity, making crime related information online, and expediting the crime detection process.
CCTNS took months-long hard work to come into existence:
This system has been developed after months-long hard work and dedication rendered by the expert team led by Special IGP (CID) Brajesh Singh in association with software and hardware expert companies, namely, Wipro, Broadband Connectivity BSNL and technical adviser SPMU (PwC) company.
According to Brajesh Singh, as many as 1.5 lakh police personnel including 638 senior officers have been provided basic training and 90,000 police personnel special training. As a result, the police machinery will be toned up to perfection. The system will help trace out even the lost ones or missing ones, and many other crimes across the state.
While Spl IGP (CID) Brajesh Singh gave details of CCTNS, DGP Sanjiv Dayal congratulated the team for this achievement. Addl Secretary Home K P Baxi and Adl Chief Secretary Sudhir Shrivastava also lauded the police department and IT department for this achievement.
