Nagpur: The name of new president for Vidarbha Statutory Development Board (VSDC) is likely to finalized in this month only once BJP-Sena combine comes to an agreement over the name. The post has been lying vacant for past 6 months after reconstitution of VSDC.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had already made statement in this regard. The consultation to this effect is underway, and BJP and Shiv Sena are yet to decide its fortune as to which quota the post should go to. In the meantime, it was rumoured that the post of VSDC president would go to BJP quota, and BJP MLAs Sunil Deshmukh (Amravati) and Krishna Khopde (Nagpur) were reportedly enlisted for it. However MLA Sunil Deshmukh’s name is said to be on the fore front. Others who are in the row include, Buldhana MLA Vijayraj Shinde (Shiv Sena) and ex-MLA Khushal Bopche.
It may be mentioned that during year 1999 when the BJP and Shiv Sena were in joint rule in the state, and there was chief minister of Shiv Sena, the post of VSDC president had gone to BJP. This time, as chief minister is from BJP the post of VSDC president may go to Shiv Sena MLA. But the parties have yet to come to an agreement.
It is also worth noticing that the post of VSDC president has always been with West Vidarbha. Earlier presidents, namely, Ram Meghe (Cong), Arun Adsad (BJP), Harshavardhan Deshmukh (NCP), Tukaram Bidkar (NCP) and Prakash Dahake (NCP) were form West Vidarbha. As the East Vidarbha is in strong position, the VSDC president’s post may go to West Vidarbha.
