12 accused including two women, other residents booked under Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013.
Nagpur: In an outrageous incident of superstition, a group of hoodlums thrashed an elderly man severely, stripped him naked and paraded him on the streets in Jaripatka area on Thursday night. The group of 12 accused including two women and other residents of the area have been booked in this connection.
According to details, the trouble started when a 14-year old girl of the area went to the house of the complainant 60-year old woman allegedly for exorcism as the girl complained of evil spirits visiting her body. At that time the old woman and her 78-year old husband were present in their house. Meanwhile, residents of the area came to know that the girl has gone to the old couple’s house on superstition grounds. The residents suspected black magic being performed the old couple. The suspicion soon turned into a frenzy and the 12 accused namely Suresh Khanpure, Nilesh Ramteke, Mangesh Ande, Narendra Khandare, Jitendra Khandare, Manoj Gulwase, Golu Borkar, Pradeep Meshram, Mahendra Khandare, Vijay Vanjari, Pratima Vanjari, Kajal Vanjari and other residents pulled out the 78-year old man out of his house, thrashed him blue, stripped him naked and paraded him on the streets of the area. The incident led to tension and police had to be called in.
Jaripatka PSI Hanwate, based on a complaint lodged by 60-year old wife of the victim, booked the 12 accused and other residents under Sections 143, 147, 323 of the IPC read with Section 7 of Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013 and investigating the matter further.
